The Six of Swords represents a period of transition - a time when we need to pull back or pull out of life temporarily in order to get to a better place on the inside or the outside. At these times we may forget that we have had successes in our lives. All we may see is the depressive state we are currently in. But this card always promises a better future if we can be patient and see it through.

The card reminds us of an 'otherness' of life. Whilst the busy rush of plans are being implemented in the heady whirlwind of life 'out there,' there is a whole other life going on inside us. When we face traumas or breakdowns in life we are reminded of this otherness. We get to feel more closely our spiritual natures, to see how all things change, how so many things are meaningless and how our spiritual nature moves us forward and keeps us safe through all of this.
